Quick Task

Encode / Decode

Pick a format, then encode or decode. Text is handled as UTF-8, so accents, emoji and every language work correctly.

Output

The formats

  • Base64 turns any data into letters, digits, + and /. It is used in email attachments, data URLs and API tokens. Base64URL swaps + and / for - and _ so the result is safe inside web addresses.
  • Base32 uses only capital letters and the digits 2 to 7, so it is easy to read aloud and is common in two-factor authentication secrets.
  • Hex writes each byte as two hexadecimal digits. Binary writes each byte as eight 0s and 1s.
  • URL encoding replaces characters that are not allowed in web addresses with %XX codes.
  • HTML entities replace < > & and quotes so text shows literally on a web page instead of being read as HTML.
  • UTF-8 bytes as text shows each UTF-8 byte as one character, which is what text looks like when it is read with the wrong encoding (for example "é" instead of "é"). Decoding repairs such text.
