What makes a password strong

Length matters most. Every extra character multiplies the number of guesses an attacker needs. A 16-character password using capital letters, small letters and numbers has about 95 bits of entropy, which is far beyond what can be brute-forced.

Every password here uses at least one character from each set you tick, and each character is picked with your browser's secure random generator (crypto.getRandomValues), not a predictable one.

Tips

  • Use a different password for every account and keep them in a password manager.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication wherever you can.
  • Leave out look-alike characters if you will need to type the password by hand.
