Hashing the text above.
What is a hash?
A hash function turns any input into a short fixed-length fingerprint. The same input always gives the same hash, and changing even one character gives a completely different one. Hashes are used to check that downloads are not corrupted, to compare files, and as building blocks in security.
Which one to use
Use SHA-256 or stronger for anything security related. MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security (people can create two inputs with the same hash) but are still fine for spotting accidental changes and matching old checksums. None of these should be used on their own to store passwords; use a password hashing function such as bcrypt or Argon2 for that.
